Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani pledges an additional £800m to invest in Manchester United's infrastructure, according to a report.

Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani has reportedly pledged an additional £800m to invest in Manchester United's infrastructure, as the Qatari banker bids to complete a takeover of the club.

Alongside Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Sheikh Jassim is viewed as the favourite to purchase the 20-time English champions, should the Glazers decide to sell.

Sheikh Jassim allegedly has huge transfer plans if he completes a takeover, with Paris Saint-Germain's Kylian Mbappe, Real Madrid's Eduardo Camavinga and Bayern Munich's Kingsley Coman all said to be targets.

The Qatari would also clear the club's debt as part of a 100% purchase of the Red Devils, while according to City AM, he has also pledged an additional £800m, which is separate to the main offer.

The report claims that the extra funds would be used to improve Old Trafford and the training ground, which have both fallen behind the club's competitors in recent years.

The money would also allegedly be used for transfers, with the potential new owner prepared to spend big with the view to helping the club return to the top of the English and European game once again.

Sheikh Jassim is said to be considering approaching the Glazers directly to hold talks over a takeover, with the Qatari fearful of the competition from Ratcliffe.

However, while Sheikh Jassim is looking to complete a full takeover, Ratcliffe is only believed to want a controlling stake, with the Glazers potentially being kept on as minority shareholders.

Raine Group, who are working for the Glazers on a sale, are currently assessing the offers that were submitted in the third round of bidding, which include those from Qatar and Ratcliffe.

Man United have undoubtedly made progress this season under the management of Erik ten Hag, who arrived at Old Trafford from Ajax last summer.

The Red Devils ended their six-year trophy drought by winning the EFL Cup at the end of February, while they will take on Manchester City in the final of the FA Cup at the start of June.

Man United are also well on course to return to the Champions League for the 2023-24 campaign, currently sitting fourth in the Premier League table, seven points clear of fifth-placed Liverpool with two games in hand.

The 20-time English champions are planning to move for a big-name centre-forward this summer, while Ten Hag is also thought to want a central midfielder and centre-back.

There will also be a number of exits in the upcoming market, with those not in the manager's plans set to be sold or released depending on their contract situation.
