Egyptian attacker Mohamed Salah ends the speculation surrounding his future by signing a new long-term contract with Liverpool.

Liverpool have announced that Mohamed Salah has signed a new long-term deal at the club, ending the recent speculation surrounding his future.

The 30-year-old was again in impressive form for the Reds during the 2021-22 campaign, scoring 31 goals and contributing 16 assists in 51 appearances in all competitions.

There had been speculation surrounding the Egypt international's future, though, with his deal due to expire next June, and Liverpool were allegedly not prepared to meet his wage demands.

The two parties have now managed to come to an agreement over a fresh contract, with Salah's terms at Anfield now due to run until June 2025.

"I feel great and [I am] excited to win trophies with the club. It's a happy day for everyone," the attacker told the club's official website. "It takes a little bit of time, I think, to renew, but now everything is done so we just need to focus on what's next.

"I think you can see in the last five or six years the team was always going [upwards]. Last season we were close to winning four, but unfortunately in the last week of the season we lost two trophies.

"I think we are in a good position to fight for everything. We have new signings as well. We just need to keep working hard, have a good vision, be positive and go for everything again.

"My message [to the fans] is the players in the team want to give our best next season to try to win all the trophies. As usual, you stay behind us and give us a big push and I am sure we are going to win trophies again [together]."

Meanwhile, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp added: "This is a special treat for our supporters to enjoy their weekend even more. I'm sure there will be some celebrations for this news tonight.

"Really pleased – really, really pleased. It's the best decision for us and best decision for him. He belongs with us I think. This is his club now.

"Of course it has taken a little time but that's absolutely OK and the best things are always worth waiting for anyway. Mo is one of the best players in the world; it's only normal there are things to sort when you are at his level. So big credit to Julian Ward and Mike Gordon for guiding us to this destination.

"I have no doubt Mo's best years are still to come. And that's saying something, because the first five seasons here have been the stuff of legend.

"Fitness-wise, he's a machine – in the most incredible shape. He works hard on it and he gets his rewards. His ability and his skill level gets higher each season, and his decision-making has gone to another level also.

"He is adored by his teammates. As coaches we know we work with someone special. And the supporters have crowned him a king. So, very cool. It is just great news. It makes me smile thinking about it. He stays with us for longer and it means we can achieve more together."

According to The Telegraph, the new deal will see Salah become the highest-paid player in Liverpool history on wages in excess of £350,000 a week.

The forward has netted 156 goals and registered 63 assists in 254 appearances for the English giants since making the move from Roma in July 2017, winning the Premier League, FA Cup, EFL Cup, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup during his time at Anfield.
