Son Heung-min scores a hat-trick to guide Tottenham Hotspur to a dominant 5-2 win over Burnley at Turf Moor in the Premier League.

Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min netted his fourth Premier League hat-trick to guide Ange Postecoglou's side to a dominant 5-2 victory over Burnley.

After being knocked out of the EFL Cup by Fulham in midweek, Tottenham made a sluggish start at Turf Moor, allowing Lyle Foster to give the hosts an early lead.

The Burnley opener sparked the visitors into life, and they duly hit back through their captain in the 16th minute.

With the teams set to head into the interval on level terms, defender Cristian Romero produced a thunderous effort to complete the Tottenham turnaround in first-half stoppage time.

James Maddison then found the net within nine minutes of the restart, opening the floodgates for Son to score two quickfire goals to wrap up his hat-trick, before Josh Brownhill registered a late consolation for the Clarets.

The result extends Tottenham's unbeaten start to the Premier League season to four matches and lifts them up to second place, while Burnley are left languishing in the relegation zone without a point to their name.

After falling to defeat in their opening two league games, newly-promoted Burnley came into the contest with hopes of claiming their first points of the season.

The early signs were positive for Vincent Kompany's side, as they moved into the lead inside four minutes courtesy of Foster's second goal of the season.

Foster, a South Africa international, rounded off a speedy counter-attack, sweeping the ball home from Luca Koleosho's cut-back.

Spurs quest for an equaliser took just 12 minutes as Son neatly linked up with Manor Solomon, who was making his first Premier League start for the club.

After receiving the ball back from the 24-year-old, Son delicately lifted the ball over the onrushing James Trafford to open his account for the season.

Zeki Amdouni attempted to immediately restore his side's advantage, fizzing a long-range strike wide of Guglielmo Vicario's goal.

Maddison then threatened, playing a quick one-two with Pape Matar Sarr before seeing his curling effort pushed away by Trafford.

As the first half drifted into stoppage time, a Tottenham corner eventually broke to the edge of the box, where Romero was waiting to fire a powerful shot in off the upright.

After carrying momentum into the half-time interval, Spurs flew out of the blocks after the break, and their early pressure paid dividends as Maddison added a third in the 54th minute.

The England international received the ball from left-back Destiny Udogie, and bent an unstoppable strike past the despairing Trafford.

With Spurs in the ascendancy, Son took their tally to four just after the hour mark, guiding the ball home after being teed up by Solomon.

Three minutes later, the South Korea international was celebrating his hat-trick after he was sent through on goal by Pedro Porro's inch-perfect pass, before slotting the ball in at the near post.

Although Brownhill managed to pull a goal back in stoppage-time, it did little to dampen Tottenham's mood as they head into the international break with 10 points from a possible 12.
