Real Valladolid climb to seventh with win at Sevilla

Early goals from Patrick Ebert and Oscar Gonzalez help Real Valladolid earn a 2-1 win at Sevilla which sees them climb three places in the La Liga table.

Real Valladolid inflicted just a second home loss of the season on Sevilla tonight to climb three places in the La Liga table.

An early double put the visitors in control, and a potential Sevilla comeback was then stalled when Gary Medel was dismissed for two bookings.

Patrick Ebert netted a second-minute opener for Valladolid, driving into the area unchallenged before bending an effort into the far corner.

Sevilla's nightmare start was made worse when Oscar Gonzalez pounced on a fortunate deflection from Ebert's shot to chip Diego Rodriguez in the home goal.

Medel and Bryan Rebello came close to cutting the deficit prior to the interval, with the latter striking the post with a powerful shot from outside of the area.

Valladolid's two-goal cushion was halved just after the break when former Manchester United striker Manucho diverted Jesus Navas's cross into his own net.

The goal gave Sevilla momentum but their hopes of claiming a positive result were damaged when Medel collected a second yellow card for a foul on Manucho.

Ebert missed a good opportunity to secure the points for Valladolid when he dragged a close-range shot wide, but it proved not to be costly as the visitors comfortably saw out the latter stages.
