Eddie Johnson, Luis Silva goals hand DC United win over San Jose Earthquakes

San Jose Earthquakes are narrowly edged out by DC United as the hosts win 2-1 with goals from Eddie Johnson and Luis Silva at the Buck Shaw Stadium.

Goals from Eddie Johnson and Luis Silva guided DC United to a 2-1 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes at Buck Shaw Stadium.

The visitors were handed the opportunity to break the deadlock in the 12th minute when Chris Rolfe's cross into the box was stopped by the hand of Brandon Barklage.

Johnson was given the responsibility, and the forward made no mistake as he slotted the ball past Jon Busch from 12 yards.

San Jose enjoyed a good spell after falling behind, but their task was made twice as difficult midway through the first half when Silva fired Rolfe's inch-perfect delivery past a helpless Busch.

However, the hosts were back in the game just before the break thanks to Chris Wondolowski, who took advantage of the space on offer to find the bottom corner from 25 yards out.

DC United kept the Earthquakes at bay in the second period and held on to their second 2-1 victory on the bounce.
