Leicester City are reportedly set to battle AC Milan and Napoli for midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud, who will leave Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Leicester City are reportedly set to battle Italian giants AC Milan and Napoli for the signature of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud.

Since joining Dortmund from fellow Bundesliga club Borussia Monchengladbach in 2017, Dahoud has gone on to make 137 appearances for Die Schwarzgelben, chipping in with five goals and 16 assists.

However, he has been hampered by injury this season, and as a result, he has been restricted to just six appearances.

Dahoud's Dortmund contract expires at the end of the current campaign, and the club's sporting director Sebastian Kehl recently confirmed that they will not be offering him a new deal.

"I had a very honest conversation with Mo last week," Kehl told BILD. "I told him that we will not be extending his contract in the summer.

"Mo has been with us for six years now, he is a very good footballer, and I really have a very high opinion of him, both in sporting terms and as a person. Nevertheless, we have decided to take this step."

Dortmund's decision has alerted a number of clubs, who now have the chance to sign Dahoud on a free transfer this summer.

According to German publication Ruhr Nachrichten, Leicester are among those who are showing an interest in Dahoud.

With Youri Tielemans's future at the King Power Stadium in doubt, the Foxes may need to strengthen their midfield in the summer.

The Belgium international is out of contract at the end of the season, and there is no indication that a new deal is close to being agreed.

As a result, Tielemans is expected to be one of three players - alongside Caglar Soyuncu and Ayoze Perez - who will leave the club on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Should Leicester decide to move for Dahoud, they are expected to face competition from Italian clubs AC Milan and Napoli.

Having only played for Dortmund and Monchengladbach, Dahoud could be set to join a club outside Germany for the first time in his career.
