Everton have climbed to fifth in the Premier League with a 3-2 home win against Swansea City.

Wilfried Bony fired over the bar in what was a bright start by the visitors, who dominated possession in the early stages.

However, Everton were able to create a decent opening when Romelu Lukaku played in Seamus Coleman, who then pulled the ball back for Ross Barkley. The youngster, though, directed his effort wide.

A period of play without chances followed, but the opening goal did come with 20 minutes played.

Barkley produced some clever footwork to lure Chico Flores into a tackle inside the box, which resulted in a penalty for the home side. Leighton Baines then stepped up and fired past Michel Vorm.

However, Swansea were level with just over half an hour played. Angel Rangel was released by Wayne Routledge and took one touch to move into the box. He found Bony with his second, and the striker converted from close range.

The hosts were immediately on the front foot at the start of the second half, pushing hard to regain their lead.

After Sylvain Distin had missed from inside the box, the Toffees grabbed two goals in the space of five minutes.

First, Lukaku converted from Kevin Mirallas's cross, and then an unmarked Barkley headed in from a corner.

Mirallas had the chance to add to the scoreline, but he failed to make the most of a one-on-one against Vorm.

Swansea came out in search of goals as the game progressed, although they were unable to make the most of their opportunities.

Michu, who came on for Bony, saw Distin block his shot, and then Tim Howard denied Pablo Hernandez with a smart save.

Ashley Williams did manage to pull one back in injury time, but the home side held on for the win.
