League One roundup: Coventry three points clear at top after thrashing Gillingham

Sports Mole rounds up all of Saturday's League One action, with Coventry City going three points clear at the top with the 4-1 thrashing of Gillingham.

Coventry City are three points clear at the top of League One after thrashing previous leaders Gillingham 4-1 at the Ricoh Arena.

The Sky Blues had a memorable first half as Jacob Murphy scored a hat-trick before the break, with Cardiff City loanee Ben Turner also heading in a debut goal on his return to the club.

Gillingham tried their hand at a comeback as Bradley Dack fired in just under 20 minutes into the second half, but it was no more than a consolation.

Elsewhere, third-place Walsall drew 1-1 at home with Sheffield United, going ahead early in the second half courtesy of Tom Bradshaw before Jose Baxter equalised for the visitors.

Another Cardiff City loanee helped Wigan Athletic to move up to fourth as striker Alex Revell scored his first for the club, handing the Latics a 1-0 win over Shrewsbury Town.

Burton Albion move down to fifth after losing out to Bury, who had a Jerome Binnom-Williams own goal to thank for their 1-0 victory at Gigg Lane.

Bradford City remain in seventh place but picked up a 2-0 win over Scunthorpe United at Glanford Park after a penalty from Anthony McMahon and a second-half Gregory Leigh finish.

Port Vale were 3-2 winners up against Chesterfield as goals from Sam Alexander Kelly, Ajay Leitch-Smith and Louis Dodds kept the visitors at bay despite finishes from Lee Novak and Rai Simons for the Spireites.

Doncaster Rovers suffered defeat at the hands of Ian Henderson, who scored two goals in the final six minutes to give Rochdale a 2-0 away win.

Kevin Long scored a dramatic final-minute goal to give Barnsley a 2-1 away win over Oldham Athletic, who had equalised just over 10 minutes earlier through Mark Yeates following Conor Hourihane's first-half opener.

Millwall secured victory against Colchester United as a brace from Newcastle United loanee Shane Ferguson and goals from both Lee Gregory and Byron Webster cancelled out Chris Porter's second-half strike for a 4-1 win at The Den.

Crewe Alexandra's struggles continued as goals from Jon Taylor, Conor Washington, Lee Angol and a Jermaine Anderson brace gave visitors Peterborough United an impressive 5-1 win at Gresty Road, nullifying a Ryan Colclough goal to keep the home side three points adrift at the bottom of the league.

Blackpool dropped to second bottom after a narrow loss away to Southend United, with Adam Thompson scoring with just over 15 minutes remaining.

Meanwhile, Fleetwood Town pulled away from the bottom with a 4-0 win over Swindon Town thanks to an Adam El-Abd own goal, an Antoni Sarcevic penalty and finishes from David Henen and Tariqe Fosu.
