Chelsea will be hoping to avoid ending a 24-year streak when they play host to Luton Town on Friday night.

With just a week remaining until the end of the transfer window, the Blues are juggling their attention both on and off the pitch.

Nevertheless, despite the desire to further strengthen their squad, priority remains on accumulating points in the Premier League under new head coach Mauricio Pochettino.

As it stands, the Argentine has delivered just one point from his opening two matches, even though large aspects of Chelsea's play has been much improved in comparison to 2022-23.

The West Londoners were the better side against Liverpool on the first weekend, only to draw 1-1, before Pochettino's team were made to pay for missed chances versus West Ham United on August 20 as they succumbed to a 3-1 defeat.

There is now pressure on Chelsea to find their scoring boots in a fixture against last season's Championship playoff winners, who have had 13 days to prepare for this contest.

If Chelsea fail to record their first top-flight victory of the campaign, it will represent the first time in 24 years that they have not won one of their opening three league encounters.

On that occasion, Chelsea lost to Coventry City in their first contest before following defeat at Highfield Road with home draws against Newcastle United and Arsenal respectively.

Another unwelcome record is up for grabs with Chelsea having failed to win any of their last nine matches at Stamford Bridge, dating back to the 2-0 success over Borussia Dortmund on March 7.

Should Luton inflict a draw or defeat on Chelsea on Friday night, it will mark the first time since the 1987-88 campaign where Chelsea have not won in 10 successive home fixtures in all competitions.

Furthermore, Chelsea have failed to keep a clean sheet in their most recent 11 Premier League games, that shutout in question coming in a goalless draw with Liverpool under short-term head coach Bruno Saltor.
