Chelsea are overwhelmingly named the biggest underachievers of 2022-23 in the Sports Mole Readers' Awards, having finished 30 points worse off than last season.

Chelsea have been named the biggest underachievers of the 2022-23 Premier League season in the annual Sports Mole Readers' Awards.

The Blues suffered their worst season in a generation, going through four managers in total and ending the campaign in 12th place - their lowest finish for almost 30 years.

A first full season under their new owners saw huge spending in both transfer windows, but rather than improving matters Chelsea were left with a bloated squad and inconsistency in team selection.

Thomas Tuchel was sacked by Todd Boehly in September, while his replacement Graham Potter only lasted until April before also being given his marching orders.

Interim boss Bruno Saltor then took charge of one game before club legend Frank Lampard took the reins until the end of the season, during which time the Blues slumped to defeat after defeat.

Chelsea ended the season with only 44 points to their name, a massive 30 points fewer than they amassed on their way to a third-placed finish in 2021-22.

As a result, they took a whopping 73.5% of your votes in the biggest underachievers category in our end-of-season awards, making them the most conclusive winners out of any of the categories.

Leicester City, who plummeted from eighth in 2021-22 to suffer relegation this season, finished second in the voting with 10.5%, while Liverpool's drop from second to fifth earned them 6.5% of the votes.
