Juventus reportedly end their interest in Manchester City's Kalvin Phillips and Tottenham Hotspur's Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Juventus have reportedly ended their interest in Manchester City's Kalvin Phillips and Tottenham Hotspur's Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Both midfielders have been tipped to seek pastures new in the January transfer window having failed to gain regular first-team football at their current clubs.

Phillips has started just five of his 31 appearances for Man City since joining from Leeds United in July 2022, and he has made only eight substitute outings across the Premier League and Champions League so far this season.

The 28-year-old is deemed surplus to requirements under manager Pep Guardiola and has allegedly been given the green light to find a new club in the winter window, with the midfielder open to the prospect of moving abroad.

Hojbjerg, meanwhile, has fallen down the pecking order at Tottenham since the arrival of new manager Ange Postecoglou, starting just five of his 21 appearances in all tournaments this season.

Pape Matar Sarr, Yves Bissouma, Rodrigo Bentancur and Giovani Lo Celso have all been preferred in Postecoglou's midfield to Hojbjerg, who is facing an uncertain future in North London.

A recent report claims that Juventus have identified the Denmark international as their top midfield target for January and are planning to open talks with Spurs in the coming days.

The Serie A leaders are understood to have already made contact with Man City to discuss a possible loan move for Phillips in the winter window.

However, according to The Sun, Juve have decided to pull out of the running to sign both Phillips and Hojbjerg due to the finances required to recruit the pair this month.

Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli recently hinted that the club are set to withdraw their interest in the Premier League duo and that the Italian giants may not pursue a new midfielder in January.

Speaking to SportMediaset, as quoted by 90min, Giuntoli said: "At this stage, there are no right opportunities from the economical and technical standpoints, so we stay as is.

"I wouldn't say we have numerical need (to buy a new midfielder) because those missing have been out for a few months.

"We have a lot of guys who are capable but haven't found much room and already proved their quality like Hans Nicolussi Caviglia, Samuel Iling-Junior, and Fabio Miretti. The squad is worthy, and the coach is happy.

"[Massimiliano Allegri is] doing extraordinary things with the lads and his staff. We'll keep at it keeping our heads down."

Juventus had previously been tipped to sign a new midfielder due to the long-term suspensions handed to Paul Pogba and Nicolo Fagioli – the former is facing an anti-doping tribunal for a failed drugs test and the latter is serving a seven-month ban for breaching betting rules.
