Inter Milan chief confirms "advanced negotiations" for Achraf Hakimi

Giuseppe Marotta is "optimistic" that Inter Milan can quickly wrap up a deal for Real Madrid full-back Achraf Hakimi.

Inter Milan chief executive Giuseppe Marotta has revealed that the club are in "advanced negotiations" with Real Madrid for full-back Achraf Hakimi.

The 21-year-old has spent the past two campaigns on loan with Borussia Dortmund and has particularly risen to prominence this season.

Dortmund have accepted defeat in their attempt to extend Hakimi's loan beyond this summer, with the player set to return to Madrid.

However, reports emerged this week that Inter are looking to snap up the Moroccan for £36m and Marotta has confirmed that a deal is looking likely to go through.

"The will of (owners) the Zhang family is to continue buying important players," he told Sky Sport Italia.

"I confirm that we are in an advanced negotiation for Hakimi. [Inter sporting director Piero] Ausilio has been very good, but we must now conclude the negotiation.

"Tomorrow will be an important day, I am optimistic. It is a job done from Ausilio in these two months. This is an operation that, with the times that are going, is really very, very important."

Dortmund have already moved to replace Hakimi by bringing in Thomas Meunier from Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer this week.
