Zinedine Zidane has reportedly stood down as Real Madrid boss 'with immediate effect'.

The Frenchman's future has been the subject of much discussion in recent weeks, with various reports claiming that he was set to leave his position at the Bernabeu at the end of the campaign.

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Zidane has now decided to leave Los Blancos 'with immediate effect', meaning that the Spanish giants will be under the leadership of a new head coach in 2021-22.

The 48-year-old is in his second spell in charge of the Spanish giants and has enjoyed huge success at the helm, winning two La Liga titles and three Champions League crowns.

The Frenchman has a contract at the Bernabeu until next June, but a recent report claimed that he had become 'tired and annoyed' this season and was no longer enjoying the role.

Real Madrid were knocked out of this season's Champions League at the semi-final stage by Chelsea, while they finished second in La Liga, two points behind the champions Atletico Madrid.

Former Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri is allegedly the favourite to replace Zidane at the helm.
