FIFA calls hasty press conference after Jerome Valcke letter revelation

FIFA calls a hasty press conference in Zurich following revelations surrounding allegations of bribery regarding a $10m (£6.5m) payment.

FIFA has called a hasty press conference for 5pm UK time this evening following revelations surrounding allegations of bribery regarding a $10m (£6.5m) payment.

Earlier today a letter addressed to FIFA general secretary Jerome Valcke emerged that appeared to instruct the transfer ahead of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

In it, South African Football Association president Molefi Oliphant asks for the $10m to be withheld from World Cup funds and paid instead to former FIFA vice-president Jack Warner to support football in the Caribbean.

FIFA refused to comment on what the press conference was about when it was called, but it appears to have been hastily set up as short notice was given and the venue seemingly not ready.

BBC Sport journalist Richard Conway tweeted the below upon arrival at FIFA HQ in Zurich.
