Liverpool's Roberto Firmino has been left out of Brazil's World Cup squad, while Arsenal duo Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus have been included in the 26-man party.

Brazil are among the favourites to claim a sixth world crown and a first in 20 years during the first ever winter World Cup, which begins later this month in Qatar.

Manager Tite became one of the first to confirm his final 26-man squad for the tournament on Monday, with Liverpool's Firmino the highest-profile absentee.

The 31-year-old has scored eight goals and created four more in 19 appearances for Liverpool this season, but misses out to Arsenal's Martinelli, who heads to Qatar with only three caps to his name.

The 21-year-old Martinelli has also been in fine form this term, scoring five times and registering two assists in 13 Premier League games to help the Gunners to the top of the table.

Despite Firmino's omission, a record tally of 12 Premier League players were named in Brazil's squad, including four Manchester United players - Antony, Fred, Casemiro and the on-loan Alex Telles.

There are also places for Tottenham Hotspur's Richarlison, West Ham United's Lucas Paqueta, Chelsea's Thiago Silva, Newcastle United's Bruno Guimaraes, Manchester City's Ederson and Liverpool duo Alisson Becker and Fabinho.

Neymar is also included, with the Paris Saint-Germain star heading into the tournament just two goals behind Pele in the all-time Brazil goalscoring rankings.

There is also a spot for 39-year-old Dani Alves, who currently plies his trade for Mexican outfit UNAM Pumas and is the most-capped player in the squad with 124 appearances for his country.

Arsenal's uncapped Gabriel Magalhaes and injured Aston Villa playmaker Philippe Coutinho are other notable absentees, while Renan Lodi, Roger Ibanez and Matheus Cunha join Firmino in missing out on the final World Cup squad after being included in the most recent roster.

Brazil have been drawn alongside Serbia, Switzerland and Cameroon in Group G of the World Cup, and will open their campaign against Serbia on November 24.

Tite's side will then face Switzerland and Cameroon in their other two group games, as they look to lift the World Cup trophy for the first time since 2002.

The Selecao have won their last seven games by an aggregate scoreline of 26-2 and are unbeaten in their last 15 outings, stretching back to last year's Copa America final defeat to Argentina.
