Frenkie de Jong will reportedly reject any attempt by Barcelona to reduce his wages as the club look to slash the wage budget to register new signings.

Frenkie de Jong will reportedly reject Barcelona's latest efforts to reduce his salary as his dispute with the club's board continues.

The Catalans are understood to have infuriated the player when they allegedly leaked his wage and questioned the validity of his contract after he announced his intention to stay last summer, rejecting a £56.2m move to Manchester United.

Spanish outlet Sport reports that De Jong will resist the board's latest request to reduce his salary.

The report states that the club must reduce their current salary expenditure from €600m (£517m) to €400m (£345m) to register new signings and contracts after the signings of the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, Andreas Christensen and Jules Kounde.

The 25-year-old is understood to be happy playing for the club and enjoying his life in the city despite the tension with the board.

The 49-cap Netherlands international has featured 17 times so far this season for the club, scoring two goals.
