Liverpool are reportedly planning to sign a new goalkeeper to challenge Alisson Becker during the summer transfer window.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is reportedly keen to sign a new goalkeeper during the summer transfer window.

Sitting eight points adrift of the Champions League qualification places, Liverpool are enduring one of their worst domestic campaigns n recent memory.

As a result, Klopp has already spoken publicly about the need to refresh his first-team squad, with midfield known to be the priority area.

Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are expected to departed Anfield on a free transfer at the end of their respective contracts, while James Milner may follow the same route out of the club.

However, that is not to say that other areas will not be targeted, with new right-backs and centre-backs also likely to be on the agenda.

According to the Daily Mail, Klopp is also ready to change the dynamic with regards to his competition between the sticks.

While Alisson Becker cannot claim to have enjoyed the best season of his Liverpool career, the Brazil international has still generally performed to a high standard despite some high-profile errors.

Nevertheless, it is an open secret that Caoimhin Kelleher needs and wants to earn regular first-team football elsewhere now that he has reached the age of 24.

The Republic of Ireland international has only made 20 senior outings for Liverpool, keeping 10 sheets and starring in the club winning the EFL Cup final in February 2022.

Kelleher has many admirers on Merseyside, which includes Klopp, but there is an acknowledgment that he needs to further his development away from Liverpool, at least for a season.

Adrian, now the third-choice stopper and who is 36 years of age, is also expected to leave in the summer, freeing up at least one spot on the substitutes' bench for a replacement.

The amount that Liverpool and Klopp are prepared to spend on a new goalkeeper may be dictated by how much they commit to ensuring that they are stronger in the centre of the pitch.

Despite the perceived issues in the Liverpool backline, they still possess the fifth-best defensive record in the Premier League and have only conceded six more times than leaders Arsenal.
