Former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez is reportedly in serious contention to become Everton's next manager, and he is currently without a club after leaving Dalian.

Former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez is reportedly a serious contender to become Everton's new manager.

The 61-year-old has been without a club since departing Chinese Super League side Dalian Professional in January, and he has now been linked with a return to England.

Former Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Nuno Espirito Santo is also in contention for the job at Goodison Park, and his claim to become Everton manager has seemingly strengthened since his talks with Crystal Palace reportedly broke down.

The Daily Mail reports that negotiations between the Toffees and Nuno came to a crossroads over the Portuguese's backroom staff, so the club have now turned to Benitez.

The Spaniard's family still live on Merseyside after arriving in Liverpool in 2004, when Benitez went on to oversee 350 games with the Reds and lead the team to Champions League glory.

Benitez last managed in the Premier League when he was at the helm with Newcastle United between 2016 and 2019.
