Didier Deschamps: 'Last World Cup campaign not important'

Didier Deschamps says that France's poor World Cup campaign in South Africa four years ago will have no effect on Les Bleus' hopes this time around.

Didier Deschamps has expressed his belief that France's disastrous World Cup campaign four years ago will have no effect on his players this time around.

Les Bleus suffered a humiliating tournament in South Africa in 2010 under former manager Raymond Domenech, with player revolts and bad results leading to a group-stage exit.

"We shouldn't mention South Africa because we are now in another World Cup, we are not going to be judged by what we did four years ago," manager Deschamps is quoted as saying by FIFA.com.

"It is good to have a pleasant atmosphere in the squad and we have people at home supporting the team which is very important, but we will be judged on what happens starting from tomorrow.

"I am not here to compare different World Cups or different generations, but it is obvious that we are getting on very well in our training sessions. We have been working very hard for four weeks, we are getting ready and everything is going very well inside the dressing room."

France face Honduras in their opening game on Sunday night.
