Everton are battling West Ham United for the signing of free agent, and former Manchester United forward, Adnan Januzaj this summer, according to a report.

Everton have begun battling West Ham United for the signing of forward Adnan Januzaj this summer, according to a report.

The former Manchester United winger is currently a free agent having left Real Sociedad upon the expiry of his contract on June 30.

After initially breaking into the first team at Old Trafford under David Moyes, Januzaj scored four goals in 34 appearances across all competitions during the 2013-14 season, which saw him touted as a future star for United.

However, the Belgian failed to score during the next campaign as his playing time was reduced under Louis van Gaal, and would go on to join Sunderland on loan for the 2016-17 season in a bid to resurrect his faltering career.

The move to the Stadium of Light would ultimately turn out to be a disappointing one, and Januzaj would go on to leave United for Sociedad in the summer of 2017 for around £7.4m.

Now aged 27, Januzaj could be set for a return to the Premier League according to AS, who are reporting that Everton and West Ham are amongst the sides fighting it out for his signature this summer.

However, both Napoli and Sevilla, as well as a Qatari-based club, are also interested in signing the winger according to the report.

A move to the Hammers would see Januzaj reunited with Moyes, but Everton boss Frank Lampard is keen to strengthen his side ahead of the 2022-23 campaign after narrowly avoiding relegation last season and losing Richarlison to Tottenham Hotspur earlier in the transfer window.

During his time in Spain with Sociedad, Januzaj made 168 appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring 23 goals.
