Former Watford manager Walter Mazzarri is reportedly sounded out about the possibility of replacing under-fire Ronald Koeman at Everton.

Former Watford manager Walter Mazzarri has reportedly been "sounded out" about the possibility of replacing Ronald Koeman at Everton.

Koeman is rumoured to be on the verge of the sack after the Toffees' poor start to the season, which has seen them collect just seven points from seven games despite making a host of key signings over the summer.

According to The Sun, Everton contacted Mazzarri after their 1-0 home loss to Burnley on Sunday, a result that left them 16th in the Premier League, and received positive noises in return.

The Italian was sacked by the Hornets at the end of last season, despite keeping them up in the top flight, and is said to be keen "to give the Premier League another crack".

The newspaper claims that the former Napoli and Inter Milan manager is poised to fly out to Liverpool this week should Koeman be given the boot.

Meanwhile, Everton's majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri has insisted that Koeman retains his "total support".
