Report: Chelsea frontrunners to sign Paris Saint-Germain forward Edinson Cavani

Chelsea are believed to be the frontrunners to sign Edinson Cavani should the Uruguayan depart Paris Saint-Germain in January following his penalty row with Neymar.

Chelsea have reportedly emerged as frontrunners to sign Edinson Cavani should the Uruguayan depart Paris Saint-Germain in January.

Cavani and PSG teammate Neymar became involved in an on-pitch spat during the side's 2-0 win over Lyon earlier this month as they bickered over who should take a spot kick.

The row is said to have escalated after the game, with rumours suggesting that the pair had to be kept apart in the dressing room afterwards and that the world-record signing subsequently demanded that Cavani be sold.

Although PSG boss Unai Emery has played down the spat, as well as denying that Cavani turned down a reported €1m (£880,000) offer from the club to relinquish his penalty-taking role, it is believed that the 30-year-old's days at the Parc des Princes may now be numbered.

According to The Sun, Chelsea may be looking to part ways with Willian in the New Year and make a move for Cavani, who would be deployed as a new partner for Alvaro Morata.

Everton are also believed to be in the running for Cavani, who has scored 139 goals in 207 appearances for PSG following his 2013 move from Napoli.
