Burnley are reportedly lining up a January move for Southampton striker Che Adams, who is out of contract with the Saints at the conclusion of the season.

Burnley are reportedly interested in signing Southampton striker Che Adams in the January transfer window, with the Clarets looking to boost their chances of survival.

The Scotland international joined the South-coast club from Birmingham City in the summer of 2019 and has since featured 164 times for the Saints, scoring 35 goals.

Adams has largely been used as a substitute so far this season under the management of Russell Martin at St Mary's, netting four times and providing two assists in 18 second-tier appearances.

The attacker is currently being kept out of the team by fellow striker Adam Armstrong, who leads the Championship's Golden Boot race with 12 goals from 22 matches.

Despite this, Burnley are interested in bringing Adams to Turf Moor in time for the second half of the Premier League campaign, according to TEAMtalk.

The report claims that the Clarets have identified the former Sheffield United youngster as a player who could provide them with a clinical edge in attack.

It is understood that the recruitment of a top-class forward is a priority for Vincent Kompany in January, with Burnley often struggling to find the net this season.

The Turf Moor club have only managed to score 16 goals in their opening 17 top-flight contests, with Josh Brownhill and Lyle Foster leading the team's scoring charts with three strikes each.

South African Foster took a break from football to receive mental health treatment in November but returned to the matchday squad for the Clarets' loss at home to Everton on Saturday evening.

Sean Dyche's Toffees were heavily linked with a move for Adams during the summer transfer window, however the switch to Goodison Park did not materialise.

With six months left on his current deal at St Mary's, Southampton realise that they may need to offload the striker in the New Year or risk losing the player for nothing at the conclusion of the campaign.

Adams's best goalcoring season in the Premier League arrived in 2020-21, when the attacker made the net ripple on nine occasions in 36 top-flight games.

Burnley will be looking to return to winning ways when they travel to Fulham on Saturday, while Adams and Southampton are also in the capital on the weekend, clashing with Queens Park Rangers.
