Brentford complete the signing of 32-year-old former Burnley defender Ben Mee on a free transfer ahead of the 2022-23 Premier League campaign.

Brentford have completed the signing of 32-year-old former Burnley defender Ben Mee on a free transfer.

It emerged on Thursday that the Manchester City academy product was closing in on a move to the Bees, after he left the Clarets upon the expiration of his contract on June 30.

Mee spent 11 years at Turf Moor after leaving Man City initially on loan in 2011, before joining Burnley on a permanent deal in January 2012.

The defender went on to make over 200 Premier League appearances for the Lancashire side, and was named club captain for the past three years.

Following the announcement on the club's official website on Friday, Brentford boss Thomas Frank said: "I am very happy that we have signed Ben. He will add a lot of quality and experience to the squad.

"He had six good years for Burnley in the Premier League. I really love his defensive mindset; he knows how to defend the box, he knows how to block a shot and he knows how to win duels.

"He will bring leadership and communication to the team, which is very attractive. He has a very good left foot and will be very good for us on set-pieces in both boxes. I am looking forward to adding him to the squad."

Mee becomes Brentford's fourth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Aaron Hickey, Keane Lewis-Potter and Thomas Strakosha ahead of successive seasons in the top flight.
