Ahead of Monday's World Cup clash between Brazil and South Korea, Sports Mole looks at the head-to-head record between the two sides.

Brazil continue their quest for a record-extending sixth FIFA World Cup crown as they go head to head with South Korea in the round of 16 at Stadium 974 on Monday.

Despite a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Cameroon in last Friday's group finale, Tite's side secured their place in the knockout stages as Group G winners with six points from a possible nine.

Brazil were guilty of a lack of sting at the attacking end of the pitch as they failed to convert several clear-cut chances before 30-year-old Vincent Aboubakar grabbed a stoppage-time winner to hand the Indomitable Lions their first World Cup victory since 2002.

Prior to that, the Selecao kicked off their quest for a record-extending fourth World Cup title with a 2-0 win over Serbia on November 24, before a late strike from Casemiro handed them a 1-0 victory over Switzerland four days later.

While Brazil will be looking to bounce back from their defeat to Rigobert Song's side and reach the quarter-finals, where they suffered a 2-1 loss to Belgium four years ago, standing in their way is a spirited South Korea side who beat the odds in the group stages.

After kicking off their campaign with an uneventful goalless draw against Uruguay on November 24, Paulo Bento's men suffered a huge blow to their qualifying hopes as they were beaten 3-2 by Ghana four days later at the Education City Stadium.

However, goals from Young-Gwon Kim and Hee-chan Hwang helped South Korea pick up an impressive 2-1 victory over Portugal and secured their place in the last 16 for the first time since 2010, edging out third-placed Uruguay due to more goals scored.

While the Taegeuk Warriors will look to maintain their fairytale run, their next task pits them against a star-studded Brazil side against whom they have suffered defeat in six of their seven encounters.

The first meeting between the nations came in a friendly fixture back in August 1995, when Dunga netted the only goal of the game to hand the South Americans a 1-0 victory at the Suwon Sports Complex.

Brazil and South Korea last faced off in June, when Richardson, Philippe Coutinho, Gabriel Jesus and a brace from Neymar condemned the East Asians to a 5-1 friendly defeat at Seoul World Cup Stadium.

Bento's side's victory in the history of this fixture came in March 1999, when Kim Do-Hoon netted a dramatic 90th-minute winner to condemn the five-time world champions to a 1-0 loss at the Olympic Stadium.
