Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar could be sidelined until the end of May after a foot operation, according to Brazil team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar.

Brazil team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar has suggested that Neymar may face a race to be fit in time for this summer's World Cup.

Last weekend, Neymar suffered a broken metatarsal in his Paris Saint-Germain's 3-0 win over Marseille, and the initial suggestion was that the forward would miss several weeks.

However, ahead of the player's operation in Rio de Janeiro, Lasmar has claimed that that the 26-year-old may not be ready to return to action until the end of May.

Upon arriving in Brazil, Lasmar said: "The recovery period will be around two-and-a-half to three months."

Brazil's first game at the World Cup does not take place until June 17, when they play Switzerland.
