Matias Kranevitter targets Barcelona clash

River Plate midfielder Matias Kranevitter, who will join Atletico Madrid later this month, wants to sign off at his Argentine club by winning the Club World Cup.

River Plate midfielder Matias Kranevitter has revealed that he is desperate to end his career with the Argentine club as a winner of the Club World Cup, and wants to beat Barcelona in the final.

The Argentine has already agreed to join Atletico Madrid and will move to the Vicente Calderon following the completion of the Club World Cup in Japan, which gets underway later this month.

Barcelona are the strong favourites to lift the trophy, but Kranevitter is confident that River can cause a stir against the Spanish giants.

"I stayed for the Club World Cup, an important competition for which I have to give my all. I have a clear head, knowing what's to come. First is the Club World Cup, something very important to me, one of the reasons I stayed. I have to take advantage of an important competition for me and my club," Marca has quoted Kranevitter as saying.

"I've won a lot at River. I've been here since I was 13 and I always dreamed of leaving as a champion. I have to give everything because [the Club World Cup] will be my last games in this shirt.

"I dream of playing against Barcelona. We have to prepare ourselves to reach the final and, hopefully, it will be against Barca. It would be beautiful to play against them."

Kranevitter, 22, who has three Argentine caps to his name, came through the youth system at River.
