Arsenal 'send officials to secure Joelson Fernandes deal'

Arsenal send officials to Portugal in the hope of securing a deal for Sporting Lisbon attacker Joelson Fernandes, according to a report.

Arsenal have reportedly sent officials to Portugal as they attempt to tie up a deal for Sporting Lisbon attacker Joelson Fernandes in the near future.

The 17-year-old made four league appearances for Sporting in the latter stages of their 2019-20 league campaign, having started training with the first team after the lockdown period.

Arsenal have been strongly linked with the youngster in recent weeks, and the Gunners are allegedly prepared to pay £40.8m to sign the attacker during this summer's transfer window.

According to A Bola, despite interest from elsewhere, Mikel Arteta's side are in pole position to secure a deal and have sent officials to Lisbon in the hope of reaching an agreement with the Portuguese club.

As well as featuring on four occasions for Sporting's first team, Joelson also scored five times and registered two assists in 28 appearances for his side's Under-23 outfit during the 2019-20 campaign.

Barcelona and Juventus have also been credited with an interest in his services.
