This week's episode of The Apprentice begins with a shock as one contestant is forced to quit the show on health grounds.

This week's episode of The Apprentice begins with a shock departure as one candidate quits on health grounds.

Lord Sugar assembles the candidates at Mercato Metropolitano in central London and prepares to announce this week's task, but Shama Amin - a 41-year-old mum of five - interjects with an announcement.

"I would just like to say something Lord Sugar, if that's okay," she says. "I suffer from a condition called rheumatoid arthritis.

"Because of medical reasons, due to this process being so physically demanding and despite all of the efforts the whole team has made to support me, I've had to make a difficult decision to leave the process. I'd just like to thank you for this opportunity."

As the other candidates express their shock, Sugar tells her: "Shama, I'm really sad to hear that. I wish you and your family all the best for the future."

After leaving the process, Amin tells the cameras: "Mentally I was strong enough to carry on but my body wasn't allowing me to carry on, so I had to make a difficult decision like that."

The Apprentice continues Thursday night at 9pm on BBC One.
