Venom sequel delayed until 2021

The upcoming sequel to Venom is pushed back until 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The release of the upcoming sequel to Venom has been pushed back eight months due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The first film in the franchise, which stars Tom Hardy as the titular villain, brought in an impressive $850 million (£689 million) at the box office in 2018 despite a negative reception from critics.

The follow-up, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, was due to be released this October but is now set to open on June 25, 2021.

Filming of the movie is thought to have been completed in February but post-production is now expected to take significantly longer than planned as a result of the spread of COVID-19.

Hardy recently teased fans with the idea that Tom Holland's Spider-Man could cameo in the film, following on from director Ruben Fleischer's insistence that a crossover between the two characters is inevitable.
