Doctors resumes filming after five-month hiatus

Doctors resumes filming after a break of almost five months due to coronavirus.

Doctors has begun filming new episodes after a break of almost five months due to coronavirus, the BBC has announced.

Like almost all TV productions, the daytime soap shut down in March as the UK entered lockdown and went off air in June following a special bonus episode that was shot over Zoom from the actors' homes.

Over the last few months productions have gradually been starting up again under new health and safety measures, with Doctors the latest to restart on Monday.

"It's been a long process of preparing the set, the crew and actors, to make sure we are working in the safest environment possible," said exec producer Mike Hobson. "We have been chomping at the bit to get back filming, especially as the audience loved our special Zoom episode.

"We are looking forward to picking up where we left off, and continuing to create great storylines full of humour, while raising awareness of serious issues, and of course, creating a bit of drama!"

The soap is unlikely to be back in the BBC One schedules until October at the earliest.
