Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan are confirmed to return to Neighbours for its final ever episode this summer.

Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan are to return to Neighbours for its final ever episodes this summer.

Earlier this year Channel 5 announced that it had decided to drop the soap from in its schedules - and despite production company Fremantle's best efforts to find a new partner, they proved fruitless and the show is now ending after 37 years.

Playing Charlene and Scott respectively, Kylie and Jason were one of the show's original iconic couples - and their wedding in 1988 was seen by more than 20 million viewers in the UK.

Announcing their return, Neighbours executive producer Jason Herbison said: "Scott and Charlene are the ultimate Neighbours couple and it would not feel right to end the show without them.

"We are thrilled that Jason and Kylie have come home to play a very special part in our series finale.

"It has been an emotional experience for them, for us and I'm sure it will be for our viewers."

Filming on Neighbours is due to wrap for the final time next month, with the final episode scheduled to air on August 1.
