This year's Grammy Awards are postponed due to the ongoing wave of coronavirus sweeping the US.

This year's Grammy Awards have been postponed due to the ongoing wave of coronavirus sweeping the US, it has been confirmed.

The music industry's biggest night was due to take place on January 31 in Los Angeles, with Justin Bieber, Billie Eilish and Doja Cat leading the nominations.

The Omicron variant of COVID-19 has spread rapidly throughout the States over the last month, however, with more than half a million new cases now being reported every day.

In a statement, the Recording Academy and TV network CBS said: "After careful consideration and analysis with city and state officials, health and safety experts, the artist community and our many partners, the Recording Academy and CBS have postponed the 64th Annual GRAMMY Awards Show.

"The health and safety of those in our music community, the live audience, and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly to produce our show remains our top priority.

"Given the uncertainty surrounding the Omicron variant, holding the show on January 31 simply contains too many risks.

"We look forward to celebrating Music's Biggest Night on a future date, which will be announced soon."

Last year's ceremony was also postponed from its original January date, eventually taking place on March 14.
