Scary Movie franchise to be resurrected
A new film in the Scary Movie franchise is to be made, it is confirmed.

The Scary Movie franchise is to make a comeback for a sixth movie next year, it has been confirmed.

The series is a parody of horror films such as Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Saw and The Ring, featuring stars such as Anna Faris, Regina Hall and the Wayans brothers.

The last installment came in 2013 with an entire change of cast but was a relative box office disappointment, earning a worldwide gross of around $78.4m (£62.5m).

Variety reports that the sixth film is being masterminded by Neal H Moritz, known for his work on the Sonic movies, The Fast and The Furious franchise and the aforementioned I Know What You Did Last Summer.

Potential parodies on the cards for the new installment include M3GAN, IT, Five Nights at Freddy's and Smile, as well as Scream, which is due to return for its seventh outing.

Production on Scary Movie 6 is expected to begin this autumn ahead of a 2025 release.
