Britney Spears could be joining Elton John on stage for his final ever UK gig, speculation suggests.

Britney Spears has been linked with an appearance at this year's Glastonbury Festival as one of Sir Elton John's surprise guests.

The music legend is playing his final ever UK gig on Sunday night and is rumoured to be bringing out four special guests during his set.

Spears has hinted that she may be among them, posting an image to Instagram depicting an apple cut in the shape of England's flag alongside three Union Jack emojis.

The singer followed up her post with an image of fish and chips - the UK's national dish - sitting next to a red rose.

Last year Spears released a version of Elton's 'Tiny Dancer' - 'Hold Me Closer' - and he is a known fan of her work, recently describing her discography as "incredibly brilliant".

Elton's Glastonbury set takes place Sunday night from 9pm and will air live on BBC One.
