Tony Maudsley signs a new deal extending his stay as George Shuttleworth on Coronation Street for at least another year.

Tony Maudsley has signed a new deal extending his stay as George Shuttleworth on Coronation Street for at least another year.

The fan-favourite character - the local undertaker and the son of legacy character Archie Shuttleworth, played by the late Roy Hudd - arrived on the cobbles in 2020 and has since become a firm fixture.

George's time in Weatherfield has seen him start up a relationship with Eileen (Sue Cleaver) and be joined on the street by his sister Glenda (Jodie Prenger).

Maudsley took to X to share the news of his contract extension with fans, writing: "WooHooo!!! That's me (and George) staying on at @itvcorrie till at least July 2025 and I couldn't be happier. As they say...if it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

Corrie has a long-standing policy of offering only one-year deals to its regular cast, recently signing the likes of Sue Nicholls, Michael Le Vell and Sally Dynevor to new contracts.
