Coronation Street, Emmerdale to return to six episodes a week

ITV confirms that Coronation Street and Emmerdale will be restored to six episodes a week from September.

ITV has confirmed that Coronation Street and Emmerdale will go back to airing six episodes a week from the middle of September.

Both soaps were scaled back to three episodes a week in March due to the coronavirus shutdown but have managed to stay on the air throughout.

Emmerdale resumed filming in late May, with Corrie following suit soon after, and the shows have now built back up enough of a reserve of episodes to be fully restored to their pre-coronavirus schedules.

An ITV spokesman said: "This is testament to the incredible work that has been achieved in Manchester and Leeds by John Whiston, Managing Director of Continuing Drama and Head of ITV in the North for ITV Studios, and his dedicated and hard-working production teams, crews, writers and actors.

"Both shows continue to film safely whilst adhering to the health and safety guidelines issued by the film and TV industry."

The soaps are most likely to go back to six episodes a week on September 14, although the move could come one week earlier when ITV's autumn schedule officially begins.
