Viaplay secures the UK rights to IHF handball competitions in a deal running until 2031.

Viaplay has reached a deal with the IHF (International Handball Federation) for exclusive coverage of major tournaments in the UK.

The Scandinavian streaming service officially launched in the UK last month following on from its acquisition of the Premier Sports channels, which have since adopted the Viaplay branding.

The agreement with the IHF, which also covers countries including Denmark, Poland and the Netherlands, includes coverage of the men's and women's World Championships in 2023, 2025, 2027, 2029 and 2031.

The broadcaster will also show the Beach Handball World Championships, as well as various youth World Championships across the men's and women's games.

Peter Norrelund, chief sports officer at Viaplay, said: "This milestone deal ensures Viaplay will deliver the world's best handball to many of the sport's biggest markets throughout this decade and beyond.

"Denmark are the reigning men's world champions and four-time winners Norway are undisputed queens of the women's game.

"Numerous upcoming IHF tournaments will also be home events for millions of our viewers, which will increase local interest even further. These are key rights that are now secured for the long term on Viaplay."

In the UK, Viaplay also has the rights to La Liga, most UEFA national team fixtures, the Scottish Cup, Coppa Italia and the NHL.
